Elementary Restructuring

The Board of Education at their regular meeting held December 12, 2011 voted unanimously (5-0) to restructure our elementary schools effective for the 2012-13 school year. This decision was reached after deliberating for 15 months and holding 12 parent meetings this fall to help select the best option to save $400,000 annually, address declining elementary enrollment and continue providing an “Excellent with Distinction” education. We are grateful to all of the parents and staff who voiced their opinions and helped the Board make the following decision:

Intermediate School - Salt Creek – Grades 5-6

Elementary Schools -  Laurelville – Grades Pre K-4

                                             Pickaway – Grades K-4

                                             Washington – Grades K-4

Students assigned to grades K-4 who would have attended Salt Creek will be divided among the three elementary schools.

Many of the details of the restructuring will be planned in the next few months. When issues are identified, studied and solved, we will post information on the district and school websites as well as send newsletter updates home with the students. These issues include but are not limited to: elementary attendance boundaries, school starting and ending times, busing schedules, staff assignments and program changes.
